Our Original STYLE Icon and Thalaiva turns 61 today. 1) In 1975, Rajinikanth began his career as an actor through the Tamil movie Apoorva Raagangal.

2) The 1978, the film Bairavi saw Rajini as the main protagonist and was launched as the hero! 

3)  Rajinikanth abruptly chose to quit acting, but was coaxed back, during the 90s... 

4) Rajini has been called the most popular Indian film actor of his time. 

5) During a visit to Japan in 2006, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh acknowledged the success of Muthu in the country during a speech, justifying a positive relationship between the two nations. 

6) Most Rajinikanth "facts" are said to be lifted from Chuck Norris facts. These satirical jokes have also inspired an iPad application. 

7) Rajini received his first Filmfare Award for the Best Tamil Actor in 1984 for Nallavanuku Nallavan.

8) Rajinikanth received the Kalaimamani award in 1984 and the M. G. R. Award in 1989, both from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

 9) With his own creative mind, Rajini introduced new styles in his movies while the directors never intervened or dared to object! 

10) Rajinikanth was also named one of the most influential persons in South Asia by Asiaweek. 

11) Rajini was also named by Forbes India as the most influential Indian of the year in 2010!!!

12) Rajinikanth was awarded the Entertainer of the Decade Award by NDTV in 2011 by the then Indian Minister for Home Affairs P. Chidambaram
